The Call Of Abraham And Sarah

The Call Of Abraham And Sarah

Hangi

  •

    Steps :
Tradition cooking for New Zealand maori
You need to dig a big hole
You also will need a tower of wood with the irons so the irons will heat up
The will say a prayer to keep the trees safe
They will dig a hole in the ground about 4 foot deep
The irons need to be around 700 degrees celsius to be able to cook the food through all the layers
You should have nicely cooked food
They will put all the layers of the cloths on the top of the food
    They will wet the cloth
    And take out the embers
They will put the food into the cages, they will put the cages into the
They will take out the irons into the bottom of the hole
After they will put lettuce leaves so the food won’t burn or be a bit smokey
The foods that are better to cook are Beef, lamb, pork, poultry, potatoes, kumara and green vegetables/ normally watercress
They do a karakia in maori (usually)
It is a risk getting the irons into the hole
You will put 3-4 layers of food and clothes so the food gets nicely cooked.
Cook for 3 and a half hours
And then you will carefully take the cages of food out of the hole and into the trailer
And that’s how you make a Hangi

Mandarin

We had learned some words from Mandarin,
and then we got to choose partners to start conversations for example
'Ni hao'  'Ni hao'  'Ni jiao shenme' 'Wo jiao Caleb' 'Zai jian' 'Zai Jian'

That means 'hello' 'hello' 'whats your name' 'my name is Caleb' 'bye' 'bye'

Mini BB Fair

At the Mini BB Fair their were baking and books.
Plus many of us brought baking so their was lots
of food to buy. But their was way to many books I didn't
even know what to buy.

social justice

We had to watch this video about fairness
and then complete a sheet that asked us
about things for example what do you think
is the main message of the story.

Kiwi Information Report

What is brown ,fuzzy and cannot fly if you guessed a kiwi bird you are correct.Did you know that kiwis take 3-5 years to grow up into an adult kiwi. Kiwis also can live up to 20-30 years old!.lots of people only know one kiwi but there are 5 types of kiwis they are the Okarito Kiwi, Great Spotted Kiwi, Little Spotted Kiwi, Southern Brown Kiwi, and the North Island Brown Kiwi. Did you know that kiwis are one of the only flightless birds in the world. There used to be 12 million kiwis in the world but now there are only fewer than 100 thousand kiwis left. . Their will be 3 main points in this report they are Diet,Habitat and the Predators it’s time to eat

Diet

Kiwis eat invertebrates for example earthworms, spiders and beetles but out of all of those the earthworms are the kiwis favourite, luckily NZ is rich in earthworms. They also eat things like berries, leaves, small crayfish and seeds.Kiwis favourite food worms are made upto 80% of water in their body so they usually don’t need to drink from streams of waters. Kiwis are omnivores so they eat both plants and meat.Kiwis need to have a home With lots of areas with food.

Habitat

Kiwis habitats are normally in sand dunes, snowy tussocks, and mangroves.Kiwis
also like damp areas and wetlands. Kiwis dig burrows for nests underground. Kiwis like to live in the forest because they like a dark surrounding. Around 15,000 have made an home on Stuart island. If kiwis don't live in their normal habitat they will die.Kiwi birds run away from animals/predators.

Predators

Kiwis run away from are ferrets, weasels, dog, rats, stoats and cats but mainly
stoats and cats. when Kiwis hide in the dark they are hard to find because they blend in with the forest surroundings. Luckily in NZ we have traps for these miraculous kiwi bird’s predators.

Conclusion

In conclusion I think this is an pretty cool bird and i am glad to say that this is the native bird and i hope you have heard all about this kiwi bird so I encourage you to not let these amazing birds parish

We have been doing this poster for a few days.

Cross

We have been doing this cross from paper crosses
as drafts. We started to paint on the cross from our drafts.
we had to paint the back and the front and put our designs on it
with  small paint brushes and in the end it looked like this.
We are going to put these crosses in the school grounds

M&M Challenge

Pointed beak, flat beak and pelican beak are all the types of beaks we used for this discovery. But these things are  also known as forceps, tongs and cups. First we learnt about the meanings of the words we need to know like, aim. Aim means trying to achieve something in the experiment we were trying to see what shape beak is the best for picking up food. And we learnt what will we change( the equipment), What we will measure ( the amount of food) and how we will keep it a fair test. The way we can make it a fair test by having a nice steady surface, by having the same person doing each type of food also by having the same amount of time of 30 seconds. We had an amazing time experimenting with rice, peppercorns, gummy worms and skittles and after we got to eat LOLLIES. Thank you Miss Down for this amazing experiment okalal
