Mixed Media - Visual Arts

You hold the future in your hands.

In Term 2 our Visual Arts focused was on Mixed Media. We finally finished our pieces of art at the end of the term. We started off by creating two hands, most of us copied our own hands as templates.  One hand represents our past and the other hand our future. We used lots of different materials and symbols to make our artwork as well as exploring a range of different techniques with watercolor paint. This is my art work.

The Water cycle

I am learning to inform my audience through an explanation
By Caleb

What has been around since the Jurassic years and keeps on repeating over and over again, yes the water cycle. A cycle is something that repeats over and over again. Did you know that 97% of the water on earth is salt water, and the other 3% is fresh water. But sadly only 1% of the water is drinkable. Every living thing needs water to survive. There are three main stages in the water cycle. Evaporation, condensation and precipitation. But it all starts when the water evaporates.

Have you ever wondered how water in a cup appear less overnight, it's evaporation. Evaporation is when the sun heats up the ocean, lake or river and then it turns into water vapor. However you can not see water vapor because it is invisible, which means you can’t see it. When the water evaporates into the air. After the water evaporates up and up until it turns into a one of the clouds in the sky .

Condensation is when the water turns into water vapor, and when it is high enough it gets colder and colder so then it will turn back into raindrops as the form of a cloud. The cloud then moves slowly around the earth until it gets heavy enough, it takes about a day or two to fill up. A cloud can be 6,000 to 25,000 feet. When the cloud fills up It will start to rain in a form of sleet, snow, hail or rain.

Precipitation is when the water in the cloud gets too heavy from all of the water, and lets all of the water out as the form of snow, sleet, hail or rain. It lands in an ocean, lake, river or just on land. After it lands on the surface of the earth it will move down the streams of water leading it back into the ocean where the cycle will continue.

As you can see that this is one of the most interesting cycles that you will ever learn about. The three main stages evaporation, condensation and last but not least precipitation. All of these parts have a special part to play in the water cycle. Each part is needed so that you are able to drink a tall refreshing glass of water. Without the water cycle we would not be able to enjoy or access water.

Samoan Language Week

This week was Samoan Language Week. In Room 6 we learnt a lot about Samoa and the Samoan culture. We watched Cultural Hub clips about the Samoan alphabet, animals and body parts. Did you know that the Samoan alphabet has only 17 letters. Also during reading time we did a scavenger hunt on facts about Samoa, we then searched the classroom for clues to complete our Samoan puzzle. We had experts teaching us greetings and phrases, our experts were Matila, Remy and Rosa.
